The phosphorescent 3Eu state of zinc porphin in n-alkane host crystals
Abstract
A magnetic resonance study is reported of the 3Eu state of zinc porphin in an n-octane host in zero field from 1·2 K to 65 K. The temperature dependence is caused by an exchange process between the two orbital components of the 3Eu state. Spin-lattice relaxation is dominated by thermal excitation to a close lying local phonon state. Crystal field splittings have been determined for the 3Eu and 1Eu(S2) states of zinc porphin in a series of n-alkanes.
