Stratospheric cryogenic interferometer balloon experiment (SCRIBE)
Abstract
A 0.1/cm resolution LiN2 cooled cat's eye interferometer was flown on 8 October 1980 from Holloman AFB. A description of the instrument is given as well as its performance with sample interferograms and spectra shown. It is demonstrated that the interferometer is capable of yielding resolutions approx. 0.1/cm while in flight and cooled to 77 K. A spectrum showing the resolution capability of the instrument is presented, and analysis of the data is in progress. No data were obtained above 6 km due either to loss of laser fringe amplitude or to electronic component failure.
