Theory of vibration
Abstract
This book represents partly an attempt to provide a systematic account of that part of the theory of nonlinear vibrations which is related to autonomous systems with one degree of freedom. The first edition of the book was published in 1937. The present edition presents the material of the earlier edition without changes, except for the correction of mistakes and typographical errors. Linear systems are examined and the characteristics of conservative nonlinear systems are investigated. Attention is also given to nonconservative systems, dynamic systems described by one differential equation of the first order, dynamic systems described by two differential equations of the first order, systems with a cylindrical phase area, the quantitative examination of nonlinear systems, and the statistical analysis of dynamic systems. The application of the discussed methods is illustrated with the aid of concrete examples.
