Magnetospheric model with internal current system
Abstract
The magnetopause shape is studied using a two-dimensional model. Internal magnetospheric current systems are introduced into an existing model (Landschulz, 1978) using conformal mappings. Free boundary-value problems are analyzed by introducing magnetic field sources and different mapping parameters. Results show that an increase or decrease of current strength will lead to characteristic variations of the magnetopause shape, and conversely, variations of the magnetospheric boundary depend on the internal magnetospheric current strength. The model was found useful in the present analysis.
