Electron kinetics of molecules
Abstract
A multilevel approach to electron kinetics is formulated and applied to the thermal ionization of molecular gases and the dissociative recombination of plasmas. Both of these phenomena are described by the evolution of a dynamic molecule-atom system and represent a single ionizational-chemical process. Kinetic equations for an oxygen plasma are obtained and solved for the quasi-steady stage of recombination. Attention is also given to: population inversion on molecular and atomic transitions; O2 ionization kinetics in the initial stage; and the mechanism of nonequilibrium ionization in the O2-NO mixture.
