Bernstein waves in a weakly relativistic plasma.
Abstract
The dispersion and attenuation of longitudinal waves propagating across an external magnetic field in a Maxwellian plasma are analyzed with allowance for relativistic corrections to the permittivity tensor. No constraints are placed on the wavelength. Solutions of the dispersion equation are obtained, and the attenuation is calculated for plasma parameters characteristic of the solar corona.
