An investigation of the microstrip circulator: A form of planar circuit
Abstract
A planar circuit that is open at the edges may be used as an efficient radiator of electromagnetic energy, or it may be used as a resonant cavity depending on the electrical parameters of the material and the geometry. A research program was conducted to investigate the possibilities of constructing a circulator in planar circuit form in which the undesirable opposite effects of radiation were minimized. A theoretical and experimental study of a microstrip three-port circulator was conducted. Measurements of not only its usual parameters but also of electromagnetic field configurations within the junction resonator were performed. Analytical field patterns were compared with measured patterns.
