Frequency shifter employing the Faraday effect
Abstract
The present paper investigates a microwave frequency shifter consisting of two polarization-plane modulators which utilize the Faraday effect and which are separated by a quarter-wave phase section containing a dielectric plate. The theoretical conversion losses for the first lateral component (when the symmetric component and the carrier are suppressed) are about 1.7 dB. The analytical results were confirmed by experiment.
