Radiooptics: Conversion of radio and optical signals
Abstract
The present volume discusses similarities between radio and optical wave phenomena and shows how the same analytical methods can be applied in problems of radio and optical signal propagation and processing. The main topics include an analytical study of wave fields in free space, the solution of certain statistical wave problems using pertinent oscillatory analogies, spatial filtration of regular wave fields, and spatial as well as temporal filtration of random wave fields. Physical principles of optical processing of the information contained in radio signals are examined, antenna theory and aperture synthesis are studied, and statistical phenomena in antennas and optical systems are investigated. Practical applications of the theoretical results are discussed with reference to information processing by coherent optical systems, interferometry, radar, and lidar.
