Lattice vibrational spectra and grüneisen parameter of some metal oxides

The infrared transmission spectra of CoO, NiO and CaO have been recorded at room temperature in the region of fundamental lattice absorption. These spectra are correlated with the earlier measured spectra of MgO and ZnS and the ratio of β ^*/β _m estimated. The Grüneisen parameters of these crystals are also evaluated and dependence of the vibrational frequency on temperature discussed.
