Tilted plateau in nuclear collisions: data, models and Monte Carlo calculations

The linear dependence of particle spectra on rapidity is seen in the central region for asymmetric heavy ion collisions in the data and in Monte Carlo results, which is similar to the fragmentation region for hadronic and ion collisions. The origin of such behaviour is discussed. It is shown that the colour string models naturally produce such a shape if string ends are randomly distributed in rapidity.
