Variation of the baryon-to-photon ratio due to decay of dark matter particles
Abstract
The influence of the decays of dark matter particles on the baryon-to-photon ratio η at different cosmological epochs has been investigated. Various masses, lifetimes, and relative fractions of dark matter particles are considered. At the present relative dark matter density, ΩCDM ~ 0.26, the decay reactions of particles with masses 10 GeV-1 TeV are shown to be capable of changing the baryon-to-photon ratio up to Δ η/ η ~ 0.01-1. However, such decay processes are also accompanied by the formation of an additional gamma-ray background. The observational data on the gamma-ray background constrain the parameters of the models under consideration and determine an upper limit on the possible change of the baryon-tophoton ratio,Δ η/ η ≤ 10-5. The detection of baryon density variations at such a level in future cosmological experiments can become a powerful tool for studying the properties of dark matter particles.
