Fine structure of the Rydberg blockade zone
Abstract
A spatial structure of the Rydberg blockade zone is studied, taking into account the possibility of excitation to states with neighboring values of the principal quantum number. As a result, it is found that the blocked zone represents a number of co-centric shells rather than a solid volume. This fact should lead to a number of observable consequences, for example, the respective pair correlation function should have the additional maxima at the small interparticle separations.
