Chandra observations of new ULXs found by eROSITA
Abstract
We ask for observations of a sample of luminous Ultraluminous X-ray Sources (ULXs) discovered during the first eROSITA All Sky Survey (eRASS1) that are located in galaxies for which no current pointed X-ray observations exist. The aim of the proposal is to perform X-ray observations of these candidate ULXs at the best possible spatial resolution. This will allow us to determine whether the eRASS1 detection is a single ULX, or an ensemble of less luminous objects and/or diffuse components; it will provide a measure of the long-term variation in source spectrum and flux; and it will provide sub-arcsecond astrometry that will permit the detection of discrete counterparts and rule out potential background AGN contaminants.
