A sturgeon (Actinopterygii, Acipenseriformes) from the Upper Cretaceous of Africa
Abstract
A single dorsal bony scute from the uppermost Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) marine phosphatites of central Morocco is identified as an acipenserid fish (sturgeon). The new specimen represents the first occurrence of an acipenseriform fish on the continent of Africa.
