Searching For An Intrinsic Difference Between Delta Scuti Stars In and Out of Binaries
Abstract
Recent studies have identified and characterized a large sample of delta Scuti pulsators in binary star systems. We have used X-ray data, available pulsational frequencies from photometric surveys, Stromgren and Geneva photometry, and spectroscopically-derived rotational speeds to determine if delta Scuti pulsators in binaries differ observationally from single delta Scuti stars. With the possible exception of pulsational frequency, we find that delta Scuti stars in and out of binary star systems are observationally similar. Our investigations are now turning to determine whether the pulsational modes that delta Scuti stars exhibit in binaries are affected by tidal locking.
