Virtual Astronomy Software Talks: A monthly seminar on astronomy software
Abstract
Astronomy research is supported by a large number of software projects, often working behind the scenes. The VAST seminar series puts software in the spotlight, allowing developers to share their libraries and projects with the community. Taking place virtually, VAST seminars reaches the global astronomy community, and usually features two projects and an open discussion each month, allowing for meaningful communication with the community. Presentations are recorded and made available through the VAST YouTube channel. Seminars also cover topics of importance to software authors, such as lessons learned in building a coding community and best practices. This presentation covers how VAST got started and how it is run, and includes information on how to sign up to join VAST talks and discussions, and how to propose your own software — or someone else's! — for the seminar series.
