Assessing woody plant encroachment by comparing adult and juvenile tree components in a Brazilian savanna
Abstract
Woody encroachment leads to floristic differences in adult and juvenile communities. Adult savanna trees have higher bark thickness than encroaching forest juveniles. Forest species dispersed by fauna are more abundant in the juvenile component. The encroached system is more vulnerable to fire in climate change scenario.
