An open platform for assessing solar wind model solutions at Earth
Abstract
Progress in modeling the large-scale corona and inner heliosphere needs community-wide strategies and procedures to evaluate the abilities of our modeling assets. I will present the progress of the Ambient Solar Wind Validation Team embedded in the COSPAR ISWAT initiative. Our team's mission is to provide the science community with an assessment of the state-of-the-art in solar wind forecasting at Earth and other planetary environments. To this end, we are developing an open online platform hosted at NASA's CCMC for validating solar wind models by comparing their solutions with in situ spacecraft measurements. The online platform will allow the space weather community to test the quality of state-of-the-art solar wind models with unified metrics providing an unbiased assessment of uncertainties in model solutions. In this contribution, I will give a status update on our team effort, showcase a first version of the platform, and outline future perspectives.
