MUF(3000) short-term (1-24) hour prediction over Europe
Abstract
The MUF(3000) predicted 1-24 hours ahead over Europe is one of the operational space weather product inserted in:
PECASUS, one of the four global Space Weather Centers for aviation space weather user services designed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO); Space Weather Service Network (SWESNET) Development and Pre-Operation project funded by European Space Agency. MUF(3000) depends on two ionospheric parameters, i.e. foF2 and M(3000), respectively given by the forecasting model EUROMAP and the IRI empirical model. The method includes two types of prediction models: regression models, based on the analyses of historical observations, and training models, based on current foF2 observations. A mapping procedure applied to the European stations provides MUF(3000) short-term prediction over the whole area. A comparison between MUF(3000) predicted and MUF(3000) derived from ionograms at European stations is presented.- Publication:
