Introduction to the Hydrology Section Student Subcommittee (H3S): Student and Early Career Led Initiatives to Enrich Collaboration Among the Water Community.
Abstract
The Hydrology Section Student Subcommittee for the American Geophysical Union (AGU-H3S) is a group of motivated students and early career researchers (S&ECR) who strive to provide student and early career hydrologists with opportunities for professional development as well as social interaction and networking within the broader geosciences community. H3S helps to facilitate community and network building for S&ECR beyond an individual's lab, university, or place of work. This committee is set up for lasting peer to peer mentoring among diverse S&ECRs. H3S provides opportunities to S&ECRs within and beyond the Hydrology Section and AGU to learn professional skills, reduce barriers from the hidden curriculum in academia, and enhance diversity and inclusivity on a global scale. Our committee is composed of professional development, AJEDI, social media outreach, conference planning, and communication subcommittees. We present some of our past and planned initiatives and present a strong case for the need to have similar S&ECR committees in the geosciences. Visit our website (https://agu-h3s.org/) and meet H3S in-person at Fall Meeting Town Halls including "Building Your Network: Collaborating as an Early-Career Hydrologist"and "A cross-career stage conversation about AGU Hydrology Section initiatives." We would love to see you at our events.
