Informatics for Social Good: From Scientists to Bridge Builders
Abstract
Informatics is a critical component of modern scientific research that connects data, domain scientists, and end users. But it is often only seen as a special field in a discipline that addresses the issues of cyberinfrastructure and data management. The rapid increase of geoscience data provides an opportunity to address many social challenges, including environmental justice and sustainable development. Geoinformatics has a key role to play to address these societal challenges. However, geoinformatics also faces its challenges such as the lack of diversity and the inequality of resources among different institutions and regions. In this lightning talk, I will share the recent perspective from a group of international early-career researchers on how informatics can support equitable future.
