Earth Science Storytelling with NASA's Worldview
Abstract
The use of satellite imagery can be a powerful element in telling stories about environmental challenges that face us today. Now, by using NASA's Worldview imagery mapping and visualization application, anyone can view NASA satellite data on climate change, natural disasters, air quality, and more to create global or regional maps. The Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Worldview provides access to over 1,000 global Earth science data imagery layers and the underlying data- creating a bridge between the data and data visualization and analysis to support the scientific discovery process and science workflow. In this presentation, we will provide several use cases that illustrate how Worldview has been used in communications in the media during natural hazard events, on social media, through storytelling with the general public (e.g., Earth Day), and in science.
