AiGIS2, a Jupyter Notebook-based Interactive Analysis and Visualization Tool for Asteroid Exploration Data
Abstract
AiGIS is a three-dimensional geographic information system developed to analyze exploration data of irregular-shaped small bodies (Hirata et al., 2018). It is software with GUI which visualizes the polygon shape model of an asteroid. The geographic information associated with the polygon model can be visualized with a color LUT. Currently, AiGIS has no interactive analysis functions or environment in CUI to process, modify or generate geographic information data, which should be useful in order to flexibly support various analyses based on the free ideas of researchers.
The objective of this research is to develop a new three-dimensional geographic information system, AiGIS2, on the Jupyter Notebook environment, which has recently attracted attention as an environment capable of realizing various analyses with interactive operability. AiGIS2 provides functions for python visualization and analysis in Jupyter Notebook and allows users to add their own code. It will be constructed with PyVista and VTK, open-source toolkits for 3D computer graphics. The visualization function of the current AiGIS has been successfully implemented with PyVista. In addition, as a new analysis function linked with the visualization function, the coordinate information of marking points on the shape model can be acquired, and the sectional information can be acquired by slicing a shape model. We will discuss the concept and basic architecture of AiGIS2, and make an on-site demonstration of AiGIS2.- Publication:
