Frequent floods lead to residential disturbance. People have to change their habitats every time disaster hits the place. Due to the climatic change scenario, the issue of flood is going to intensify unfortunately. This is not practically feasible to vacate the place every time as per warnings in flood prone areas in particular. The idea is to use integrated approach, using community knowledge to practical solutions with low budget. It is difficult to predict floods but preparedness will help us to respond them well. The idea of preparedness by using the current mitigation measures by improvising them and implemented them before the warnings by preparing a complete model of mitigation for the flood prone residential site. The model will focus on structural and non structural mitigation strategies focusing more on floodwater diversion and storage approach and Low Impact Development Approach ( LID) or Green Infrastructure (GI). This mitigation model will help us to reduce the risk of flood and flood damages to property and life. Furthermore the municipality of particular locality will not take extra burden to vacate the place or to compensate for the lives or property loss. The model is based on the "Prevention is better than cure approach."- Publication:
