Interlinkages of Carbon and Reactive Nitrogen species with Heavy Metals at Jain Nagar site, Delhi (India)
Abstract
Nitrogen in precipitation is present in the form of ammonium (NH+4), nitrate (NO-3) and Dissolved Organic Nitrogen (DON). Measurements of Total Nitrogen (TN) and heavy metals were carried out in the agricultural area of West Delhi during monsoon and non-monsoon season of 2018. The sampling site is situated at an elevation of 217 meters above sea level. The Total Nitrogen (TN) was measured along with other compounds such as organic carbon using chemiluminescence based TN/TOC analyser (Shimadzu model TOC-LCPH E200 ROHS). The other heavy metals were measured using highly sensitive instrument ICP-OES (Inductively coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy) and Hg metal was measured by using voltammetry method using the 797 VA Computrace (Metrohm, Switzerland) instrument. The data and interpretation in this study are focused upon the relationship between nitrogen species and heavy metals as examined through ratio and correlation plots. The mean value of TN and TOC is 7mg/l and 2.4mg/l respectively. The mean value of Hg was 4 μg/l whereas the maximum and minimum values were 23.6 μg/l and 0.5 μg/l respectively. Detailed results will be discussed in the Fall meeting.
