Probing the inner accretion flow of a luminous highly variable Seyfert
Abstract
Changing-look AGN (CLAGN) are one of the most mysterious categories ofAGN, showing strong variability and sudden state changes. Our searchfor possible CLAGN candidates led to the discovery of 2MASXJ0817. Thesource is affected by a very small amount of intrinsic absorption andexhibits long-term X-ray variability by a factor of 10 at least. Thestrong spectral changes in the source are associated with intrinsicchanges only (no absorption-induced variability was identified). Wepropose to monitor the source during AO21, with a total of 240 ks in away that will allow us to probe changes in the inner accretion flow ondynamical, thermal, and viscous timescales, ranging from a few ks upto a year. The proposed campaign will shed light on the nature of thestrong variability in this source.
