The search for Dipper stars in the Orion A Molecular Cloud Complex from NGTS survey data
Abstract
Dipper stars are low-mass stellar variables which exhibit deep aperiodic drops in flux tied to dust transits in the inner disk region of these stars' circumstellar disks. Using the NGTS survey of Orion A from the 2017-2018 observing season as well as a training set of stars classified from previous Orion surveys, we apply machine learning methods towards the identification of new Dipper stars in Orion. We identify 72 new Orion dippers for a total of 81 dippers in our sample - the largest dipper population discovered and characterized in Orion to date.
