Who lives in transit-friendly neighborhoods? An analysis of California neighborhoods over time
Abstract
Transit ridership in the U.S. and in California fell during the 2010 s. We examine socio-economic changes in California's transit-friendly neighborhoods. Residents of poor, immigrant, Black, and zero-vehicle households ride transit more. The shares of these groups in transit-friendly neighborhoods have fallen since 2000. Neighborhood changes do not bode well for transit's post-pandemic recovery.
