The impact of COVID-19 on domestic U.S. air travel operations and commercial airport service
Abstract
COVID-19 impacted domestic U.S. air travel operations and commercial airports. Domestic departures declined 71.5% in May 2020 as compared to previous year. Number of domestic U.S. markets declined 32.1% as compared to previous year. Large airports and airports in multi-airport cities had greatest service reduction. Design of CARES Act service requirements led to non-uniform impacts on airports.
