The relative role of solar reflectance and thermal emittance for passive daytime radiative cooling technologies applied to rooftops
Abstract
we modeled passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) rooftops in Atlanta and Phoenix. surface reflectance is much more important than emittance for PDRC roofs. conventional and traditional cool roofs still heat the urban environment. roof temperature remains below ambient when solar reflectance is above 0.9. PDRC roofs result in average urban cooling of more than 30 W/m2.
