Image sleuth faces legal threats
Abstract
More than 1400 researchers have signed an open letter—and 3000 others have signed a petition—in support of Elisabeth Bik, a scientific integrity consultant who is facing legal threats by researchers whose work she has critiqued. Lawyers representing one or more authors who have published on the benefits of "healing energy" have demanded she retract her critiques of that work and apologize. And a lawyer for Didier Raoult, a controversial microbiologist at the Hospital Institute of Marseille Mediterranean Infection in France who popularized the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment, has accused her of harassment and blackmail. Bik says she has also faced months of harassment on Twitter, including publication of her home address.
