Berthelot, the new astronomical station in Romania
Abstract
The article presents a new optical astronomical infrastructure installed in the Transylvania plateau, in the center of Romania. First light of this infrastructure was made in November 2018. The infrastructure consists of a telescope operated remotely and an allsky camera. The platform was designed to host several telescopes. Astrometeorological statistics show a number of 209 clear nights during one year. Based on telescopic observations obtained in 2020 an average seeing of 3.800 was derived, and a limiting magnitude of 18 for a signal-to-noise ratio of 10. Statistics of scientific programs exemplified by results of astronomical observations are presented, namely contribution to the European Union-Space Surveillance and Tracking Programme monitoring, astrometry for confirming and secure Near Earth Asteroids orbits, photometry of asteroids, cometary imaging, and recording of astronomical events.
