Study of heat wave and rainfall over Adilabad Region, India during 2013
Abstract
The occurrence of heat wave in 2013 accounted for nearly 1393 people lives over India. In this work, we have studied the pre-monsoon season during 2013. Telangana is one of the most affected states due to heat waves behind Andhra Pradesh. We have examined the rainfall, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, relative humidity, divergence, vertical velocity, wind speed and specific humidity over Adilabad region (19.66°N 78.53°E) using IMD dataset and ERA5 reanalysis dataset. Very low humidity is found at lower pressure levels. This is due to the convergence of dir air at lower levels. The dry air at this place indicates the heat accumulation at Adilabad. Sea breeze from east coast of Andhra Pradesh also plays crucial role for inland heat wave over Telangana region. Therefore, this research indicates the risk of heat wave events and warns us to plan some precautions prior to their occurrence.
