First results from the ionization gauge instrumentation on the Dynamo2 missions
Abstract
First results from the ionization gauge instrumentation on the Dynamo2 sounding rocket missions are presented and discussed. The two Dynamo2 missions were launched into well-developed daytime E-region dynamo current systems on separate days in July, 2021. Multiple-sensor ionization gauges were included in the payloads to provide in-situ measurements of the neutral atmosphere, including atmospheric density, temperature, and winds. Results from analysis of the data received are presented and interpreted in the context of the daytime ionospheric dynamo and are compared with results from a similar set of missions launched in 2011 and 2013 as the first Dynamo rocket campaign.
