Initial Validation of PlanetiQ Ionosphere Measurements via Comparisons with COSMIC-2 and IRI
Abstract
On June 30, 2021, PlanetiQs first successful satellite launched into a sun synchronous, low Earth orbit on the SpaceX Transporter 2 launch vehicle. The new Pyxis GNSS radio occultation (RO) receiver is now acquiring ionosphere occultation data from the four GNSS constellations: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou. We will present initial ionosphere results including total electron content (TEC) slant paths, electron density profiles and ionospheric scintillation results. As part of our validation effort, we will present comparisons against COSMIC-2 results as well as other models and measurements such as the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI).
