Reconstruction of 330-kyr authigenic neodymium isotope record in the equatorial Indian Ocean
Abstract
Past deepwater circulation of the equatorial Indian Ocean was reconstructed using Nd recorded in the Fe-Mn coating of mixed-species planktonic foraminifera, and the record was compared with previous records at the same site (ODP 758) and at a nearby site (SK 129) to the west, extracted from different media (cleaned foraminifera and bulk sediment leach). The three records display similar glacial-interglacial variations in general. During glacials the AABW component increased, and during interglacials the NADW component increased. Our record for core HI1808-GPC04 fills in data in the AABW-dominant interval (MIS 6/5 transition and MIS 7). The differences between the eastern and western cores (HI1808-GPC04/ODP 758 vs. SK 129) indicate regional input of non-radiogenic Nd from the boundaries - increased input and dissolution of the Himalaya-source particles for HI1808-GPC04/ODP 758 and of the margins of the Indian peninsula and Arabian Sea in the case of SK 129.
