GES DISCs ArcGIS Image Service with Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (IMERG) data
Abstract
Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) serves an ArcGIS image service of the Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (IMERG) precipitation rate dataset. Using the image service, users will be able to view the entire archive of IMERG data (2000-present) without downloading any data. IMERG data provides estimates of global precipitation rate every 30 minutes. The image service is updated throughout the day to provide users with the most up-to-date data. This image service can be accessed using ArcGIS Online Platform, embedded into StoryMaps or web Applications and desktop applications like ArcGIS Pro. The service has a component that is compliant with the Open Geospatial Consortium Web Map Service (OGC WMS) standard, which allows users to access the service through open source GIS clients, for example QGIS. Users also have the ability to select from predefined color schemes, linear and log stretching, and options for more customized symbology. Images service can be used by the scientific community in various applications, for example, to track hurricane or extreme precipitation events in near real time.
