Breaching characteristics of landslide dam and the change of water level in dam
Abstract
Landslide and debris flow are often considered to be dangerous threats to lives and properties, especially under the extreme climate and fragile geology in Taiwan. Large volume of soil blocked the river, formed the landslide dam, which once breaching, it causing extremely serious secondary disasters. Not only a great damage to the neighbor, but also affect to the downstream along river. Therefore, understanding the breaching characteristics of landslide dam is valuable to deal with disasters. The experiment site is located at the downstream of Landao River. The artificial earth dam with two different degree of compactions is constructed. The self-made triaxial moving sensors based on Arduino are used, and the water level sensors is buried in the dam. With these devices, the hydraulic characteristics, morphological evolution, the change of water level and seepage rate in the dam with different compaction degree are discussed. In addition, due to water infiltration in the process, the phenomenon of expansion and subsidence occur. Image identification is used to evaluate the displacement of earth dam.
