Women in Geoscience Video Series

The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology, in partnership with If/Then and Earth Science Animated, have created the video series, Women in Geoscience to show both the diversity of geoscience careers and the diversity of women geoscientists around the world. By dispelling the notion that scientists are boring and one dimensional, and shattering the mental picture of what a scientist looks like and who can be a scientist, we hope to inspire young women to pursue careers in the geosciences. We will discuss how we selected women to feature, how we set up the interview process to allow the scientists to tell their story in their own words, the difficulty in editing their compelling stories to maintain our time constraint, how the videos themselves were animated to honor the diversity of lived experience, and the methods we used to disseminate the videos widely.
