Static Parameter Agents of CyberWater framework for geoscience data and model integration
Abstract
Data and model integration has been of great importance to the effective exploration of scientific questions in the fields of hydrology, environment, biology, atmospheric sciences, and other geosciences that define the Earth system. Such integration must be flexible, adequate, seamless, and efficient, which are vital aspects against the ever-increasing complexity and diversity of available data products and models. To address such an urgent need, we develop CyberWater, a collaborative NSF-funded project in its third year, which is an open data and open modeling framework with a GUI-based workflow environment, offering a suite of Data Agents for accessing diverse online data sources and a generic model agent toolkit for integrating users models without coding. In this study, we present our new development of CyberWater, called Static Parameter Agent suite, which is aimed at aiding users to easily create and prepare various parameter files required for their models. This presented Static Parameter Agent suite enables users to efficiently create their own parameter files on-demand, significantly overcoming the hassle of conventional time-consuming and tedious manual-processing and preparing of model parameter files. The utilization of the developed Static Parameter Agent suite of CyberWater has been demonstrated in creating key parameter files for different models in geosciences, such as the VIC, DHSMV, and CASA-CNP models. This new development makes the CyberWater more accessible to the general scientific community towards the next generation of open data and modeling cyberinfrastructures for broad earth science communities.
