Urban Greening and Health: Review and Case Study of Heatstroke Occurrence in Kyoto, Japan.
Abstract
With the increase in population, rapid urban development is taking place on a global scale. While urban development improves people's living standards, rapid development also creates urban problems such as air pollution, noise pollution, and Urban Heat Island (UHI). These problems cause direct health hazards to people, such as respiratory diseases, stress, and heat stroke, so it is urgent to solve these problems. Here, we review the impact of urban greening on these urban problems. Findings have confirmed that urban greening can lessen urban environmental problems such as air pollution, noise damage, and UHI, suggesting that it can improve people's health in cities. In this presentation, the relationship between urban greening and health is systematically analyzed. Also, the usefulness of urban greening for health is discussed. The case study of urban green for preventing heatstroke in Kyoto, Japan will be presented.
