The parallel worlds of DEMOGORGN Greenland
Abstract
The topography beneath ice sheets is a critical component of ice sheet modeling. However, existing representations of the bed are unrealistically smooth. We present an ensemble of geostatistical realizations of the Greenland subglacial topography, referred to as DEMOGORGN (Digital Elevation Models Of Geostatistical ORiGiN). These topographic realizations reproduce the topographic roughness observed in bed measurements and sample the uncertainty space. To create this product, we developed a geostatistics software package that enables the application of geostatistics to a wide range of cryosphere investigations. DEMOGORGN Greenland provides a geologically realistic basis for ice sheet models and can be used to perform uncertainty analyses.
