An Online Earth Observation Compendium Tool to access and understand offerings of civil and commercial missions
Abstract
An interagency effort shepherded by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) within the Joint Agency Commercial Imagery Evaluation (JACIE) land remote sensing framework is to create a freely available Earth Observation (EO) mission Compendium and online tool to access detailed information on civil and commercial national and international EO spaceborne missions. In this living online and print EO mission database, (available at https://calval.cr.usgs.gov/apps/compendium, and in Christopherson et al., 2019, Ramaseri Chandra et al., 2020) we focus on detailing the status, orbit parameters, spectral, temporal, spatial resolution, as well as data geometric, radiometric and spatial accuracies and data access procedures for current, former and forthcoming EO missions. The online search tool is capable of filtering EO assets by spectral capabilities, orbit type, launch time period, country or space agency and other specifications. The tool is intended to be useful to finding appropriate EO mission capabilities and to direct users to data access information and available evaluations. We welcome feedback as to needs of the EO user community. The print and online compendia are developed by staff supporting the USGS Requirements, Capabilities and Analysis for Earth Observation (RCA-EO) project, the National Land Imaging Program and the EROS Cal/Val Center of Excellence (ECCOE) project.
