ULXs, halo, and dark matter studies with NGC 4656 and NGC 4656UV
Abstract
We propose to observe the pair of galaxies NGC 4656 and NGC 4656UV fora total exposure time of 60 ks. These galaxies were never observed byXMM-Newton nor by Chandra. ROSAT detected 8 ultraluminous X-ray sources(ULXs) in NGC 4656. In 2012, the dark matter dominated galaxy NGC 4656UVwas discovered by GALEX in far UV. It shows an intense star formationactivity. The proposed observation will produce a wealth of new results:it will allow to characterize for the first time the spectral and timingproperties of the ULXs in these galaxies and those of the halo of NGC4656; it will also enable to search for dark matter signals in X-raysin the peculiar galaxy NGC 4656UV.
