Galaxy morphology and the stellar-halo mass relation
Abstract
We use data from the SDSS DR7 and visual classifications of morphology from the Galaxy Zoo project to show that the scatter in the stellar-halo mass relation correlates with galaxy morphology, such that more massive galaxies at fixed halo mass are mostly spirals. We obtain this same correlation in galaxies from the EAGLE simulation. We discuss the galaxy-black hole relation, halo formation time and galaxy assembly history as principal causes that plausibly explain this correlation.
