Abstract
Waste management is a perennial problem in rural and urban areas. Many initiatives and projects were implemented by local government units, either improving their current manual system or adopting ready to use technology platforms, to help motivate residents in their proper disposal of wastes most especially recyclable materials. This study was intended to develop an online material recovery trading system (MRTS) that shall serve as an innovative tool to support the community waste management project of barangay Bued, Calasiao, Pangasinan, Philippines in retrieving reusable materials from its residents. The web app that serves as tool for trading adopted the use of points system to provide incentives to residents based on their accumulated points such as exchange of goods or supporting a cause or advocacy. The app was tested and evaluated by the stakeholders using the SUS tool. The app’s usability scored an average of 80.40 which means that the developed system is easy to use and has well-integrated functions. Further, the app is being considered by barangay officials to be implemented to support the community waste management effort in recovering recyclable materials from its residents.
