A formal redefinition of the genera Nosema and Vairimorpha (Microsporidia: Nosematidae) and reassignment of species based on molecular phylogenetics
Abstract
Nosema and Vairimorpha species were intermixed in two phylogenetic lineages. Phylogenetic placement is used to redefine Nosema and Vairimorpha. Phylogenetic relatedness to the type species is the basis for genus assignment. Morphological and developmental features are variable within genera.
