Pelagic harmful algal blooms and climate change: Lessons from nature's experiments with extremes
Abstract
Extreme weather events can mimic future climate conditions. Extreme oceanic outliers provide a "dress rehearsal" for understanding future frequency, intensity and geographic extent of pelagic HABs. Three case studies of extreme HAB events demonstrate their linkages to climate change.
