Betelgeuse, Sirio, Antares e il cielo degli antichi
Abstract
Betelgeuse was considered in ancient times the painful shoulder of the giant Orion, more reliably because of its visible variability. Stellar variability in antiquity was included in the myths of the hosting constellations. The magnitude system was introduced by Ptolemy for the Almagest catalog. The case of Betelgeuse (1-), Sirius (1 and red) and Antares (2) are discussed.
